NWS Alert: Gusty afternoon winds and isolated thunderstorm risk near Boise foothills Monday. No widespread severe weather expected.
Boise residents woke up to warm sidewalks and blazing sunshine Monday morning — and it’s only going to get hotter. The National Weather Service projects Boise could touch 92°F by afternoon, making this one of the hottest Memorial Day stretches the Treasure Valley has seen this season.
Dry air and mostly sunny skies are fueling the heat surge. Winds will stay calm through the morning, then turn northwest and pick up speed later in the day. Travelers heading along I-84 from Nampa through Mountain Home will enjoy clear driving conditions — at least through Monday evening.
But don’t get too comfortable. A sharp weather reversal is on the way. Starting Tuesday, a surge of cooler Pacific air barrels inland — dropping highs from 92° down to the mid-60s almost overnight. That’s a swing of more than 25 degrees in under 24 hours.
By Wednesday and Thursday, scattered showers and afternoon thunderstorms move in, keeping temperatures in the 70s through Friday. Higher elevations across central Idaho may see gusty mountain showers as broader Pacific energy sweeps through the Northwest — though snow levels remain high enough that lowlands won’t see any white.
Longer-range models hint at another warming trend building into early June, but for now, the pattern turns decidedly more like a classic Idaho spring.
