A Wisconsin man who accepted a ride from three teenagers during a heavy rainstorm was ambushed, robbed and shot dead just blocks away — and now three juvenile suspects are facing murder charges.
What Happened
On the evening of April 14, 35-year-old David Krause was caught in a severe rainstorm in Milwaukee and took shelter at a gas station. After realizing he had left his keys in his girlfriend’s car, he called her to say he was “getting a ride from some kids.”
That decision cost him his life.
The Ambush
Three teenagers drove Krause just three blocks before the situation turned violent. Surveillance cameras captured Krause running from the vehicle toward a nearby bar, with two teens chasing him.
A struggle followed. One of the teens allegedly fired a gun at Krause. The teens then fled the scene in what investigators say was a stolen vehicle.
The Suspects
Three juveniles are now charged with felony murder and armed robbery. One suspect is just 14 years old. Due to their juvenile status, details about the other two have not been released.
The 14-year-old was initially arrested, then accidentally released — before being rearrested on April 27 by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Family Speaks Out
Krause’s sister remembered her brother with heartbreaking words:
“My brother’s Achilles heel was that he blindly trusted people. He had so much faith in humanity and the community of Milwaukee — and that’s the reason why he’s not here today.”
Krause had been celebrating 414 Day the night he was killed.
The case remains active as the juvenile court proceedings continue.
