Mom Forced Son Into Unnecessary Feeding Tubes for Her Own Pleasure, Police Say — Disturbing Details Inside

A disturbing case out of Tarrant County has brought renewed attention to a rare but serious form of abuse where a caregiver fabricates or induces illness in a child.

Authorities have arrested Kaitlyn Rose Laura, 31, accusing her of subjecting her toddler son to prolonged and unnecessary medical treatment over the course of at least a year. She now faces charges of serious bodily injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to investigators.

The case began unfolding when concerns were raised by medical professionals at Cook Children’s Medical Center in 2025. Doctors grew suspicious after noticing repeated inconsistencies between the mother’s claims and the child’s actual condition. Despite Laura insisting her son could not eat normally and required a feeding tube, hospital staff were able to feed the child without difficulty.

As the investigation expanded across jurisdictions—including Fort Worth and the smaller town of Glen Rose—authorities uncovered a pattern. Laura allegedly provided conflicting and exaggerated medical histories, including false claims about a traumatic birth, seizures, and serious neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy and autism. Medical records, however, did not support these claims.

The situation escalated when Child Protective Services intervened earlier this year. According to officials, the child had been confined to a specialized “posey bed,” typically used for high-risk patients, and was allegedly forced to use a wheelchair. After being separated from his mother, the toddler showed immediate improvement—he was able to walk, eat solid food like pancakes and sausages, and function normally.

Doctors at both Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Cook Children’s concluded there were strong indicators of medical child abuse. In one instance, a hidden camera reportedly contradicted Laura’s claims that she was trying to feed her son.

Investigators also allege that Laura pursued multiple feeding tube procedures, even after medical professionals advised against them. The child underwent at least two such interventions before the pattern was fully recognized.

Following her arrest on March 25, Laura was released on bond under strict conditions, including no contact with minors. Authorities are also examining possible financial fraud linked to multiple fundraising campaigns reportedly created in the child’s name.

Bill Waybourn described the case as deeply troubling, suggesting the abuse may have been driven by a desire for sympathy. Meanwhile, the child is now in protective care and showing signs of recovery.

The case highlights the importance of vigilance within healthcare systems—and the critical role of medical professionals in identifying signs that may otherwise go unnoticed.
