Newfane Crash Leaves 13-Year-Old Seriously Injured After Pickup Rolls Over in Niagara County

Newfane, New York — A serious rollover crash Wednesday evening left three people injured, including a 13-year-old child who was ejected from a pickup truck, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 6:16 p.m. to the intersection of Day Road and Wheeler Road after receiving reports of a violent collision. Investigators say a 2018 Dodge Ram traveling north failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox. The impact caused the pickup to flip multiple times.

Two passengers inside the truck were thrown from the vehicle during the crash, including the 13-year-old. Authorities confirmed that none of the occupants in the pickup were wearing seatbelts. Both ejected passengers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox was also seriously hurt but is expected to survive.

Officials identified the pickup driver as 50-year-old Jonpaul Oliver of Franklinton, North Carolina. Deputies determined he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He now faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law involving a child passenger, and endangering the welfare of a child.

All injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
