A routine Saturday afternoon in Groton turned into an unforgettable moment for a group of first responders — and for one family who welcomed a new baby boy in the most unexpected place.
What Happened?
On Saturday around 3:30 p.m., Groton Fire Department crews were called to a local business parking lot after reports that a woman had gone into labor — right there in her vehicle.
There was no time to wait.
Who Helped Deliver the Baby?
A team of first responders jumped into action:
- Fire Lt. Tyler Shute
- Firefighter-EMT Chris Braun
- EMT Gibson McCullagh
- Members of Littleton Fire Department
- Groton Police Department officers
Together, they successfully delivered a healthy baby boy — right inside the woman’s car.
How Are Mom and Baby Doing?
Both mother and child were transported to UMass Worcester Medical Center. According to Fire Chief Arthur Cheeks, both are recovering well.
What the Fire Chief Said
Chief Cheeks praised his team for their quick response in a high-pressure situation.
“It is an honor to be able to provide care to people in the most pivotal, positive moments of their lives,” Cheeks said.
Why This Story Matters
Stories like this remind us that heroes are not always in hospitals. Sometimes they are in a parking lot, in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, making sure a new life enters the world safely.
Congratulations to the family on their newest addition.
