Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood was shaken Monday evening when a violent three-vehicle crash claimed one life — and left police scrambling to piece together exactly how it happened.
The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Northampton Street and Shawmut Avenue — a busy crossroads in the heart of Roxbury.
According to Boston Police, two motorcycles collided with each other first — then slammed into a waiting SUV. The chain-reaction impact was severe enough that at least one motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Authorities later confirmed the worst: one person did not survive.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim or details about the condition of other people involved. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation.
Witnesses at the scene reported a chaotic scene as first responders rushed to assist those injured. The intersection was closed for several hours as investigators worked to document evidence.
This stretch of Northampton and Shawmut has seen traffic concerns raised by residents in the past. Whether speed, signal violations, or other factors played a role in Monday’s tragedy is something investigators will need to determine.
