Pilot Dead, Passenger Injured After Small Plane Crashes Into Savannah Neighborhood — FAA Investigating

A deadly small plane crash shook a Savannah, Georgia neighborhood late Sunday night, leaving the pilot dead and a passenger hospitalized.

The crash happened on the 200 block of E. 66th Street in the Lamara Heights neighborhood, according to the Savannah Police Department. Authorities confirmed no one on the ground was injured.

Savannah Union Firefighters received the emergency call at approximately 9:46 p.m. Sunday. When crews arrived, both the pilot and passenger were still trapped inside the wreckage.

Firefighters acted quickly to free both individuals so they could be transported to a nearby hospital — but the pilot did not survive.

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. The surrounding area remains closed as officials work to investigate and remove the aircraft.

Residents in the Lamara Heights area are being urged to avoid the scene until further notice.
