Rochester, New York — A tragic act of violence in Rochester has ended with a life sentence for 25-year-old Jermaine Williams, who was convicted of killing two people in a shooting that stemmed from a dispute at a concert—one that one of the victims had no involvement in.
What Happened
The incident dates back to the night of May 6, 2024, when 46-year-old Shatina Jones and 43-year-old Timothy Chealey were shot and killed while standing on the front porch of a home in Rochester.
Earlier that evening, Williams had attended a concert at Blue Cross Arena, where he got into an altercation with another individual. Authorities say that instead of letting the situation end there, he followed the person to a nearby residence where several people had gathered after the event.
How the Shooting Unfolded
According to prosecutors, Williams arrived at the home and opened fire on a group of people gathered on the porch. Jones, who had stepped outside to smoke a cigarette, was caught in the gunfire despite having no connection to the earlier dispute. Chealey was also fatally shot during the attack.
A third individual was injured but survived.
