San Antonio heat pushes into the 90s this week — but a storm is waiting on the other side

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — If you were hoping for a break from the heat, it is not coming yet.

San Antonio is locked into a stretch of 90-plus degree weather that runs straight through the weekend — and forecasters say things get hotter before they get better.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday kicks things off with sunny skies and a high near 90 degrees. Winds stay light through the afternoon, but humidity is already building across south Texas.

It does not stop there.

Temperatures Keep Climbing Through the Weekend

Thursday brings another sunny day with highs pushing to 91 degrees and wind gusts reaching up to 20 mph at times.

By Friday and Saturday, the mercury hits 92 degrees both days. Southeast winds pick up, skies turn partly sunny, and overnight lows stay unusually warm — hovering in the 70s both nights.

That kind of overnight warmth gives the body very little time to recover from the daytime heat.

Air Quality Alert Still in Effect

An air quality alert remains active for parts of the San Antonio region.

Sensitive groups — including children, the elderly, and anyone with respiratory conditions — are advised to limit prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the afternoon, typically between noon and 6 p.m.

If you have to be outside, early morning hours offer the best conditions this week.

Rain Returns — But Not Until the Weekend

Relief does eventually come, just not until Sunday.

Rain and thunderstorm chances begin creeping back Sunday night as Gulf moisture pushes into south-central Texas. By Monday and Tuesday, scattered showers and storms become more likely across the region.

Even with the returning rain, temperatures are expected to stay above average for mid-May.
