School Told Her to Park Off Campus — She Never Made It Back Alive

McKenzie Scott was 18 years old, excited for her Senior Walk ceremony, and doing exactly what her school told her to do — when a drunk driver ended her life in a marked crosswalk.

What Happened?

On May 2, 2025, Scott was a senior at Arbor View High School in Nevada. She had parked on North Buffalo Drive — as instructed by the school via email — because the campus had “insufficient on-campus parking.”

She stepped outside to grab her graduation cap and gown from her car when Keenan Jackson struck her with his vehicle while she was legally crossing in a marked crosswalk.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Driver

Jackson pleaded guilty to DUI resulting in death in October 2025 and was sentenced to 8 to 20 years in prison in November.

The Lawsuit

Scott’s family has now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against:

  • Clark County School District
  • City of Las Vegas
  • The drunk driver

The family argues the crosswalk had received multiple prior complaints about being dangerous — and neither the school district nor the city took action.

What Changed After Her Death?

After McKenzie died, both the city and school district finally acted:

  • Overhead pedestrian-activated flashers installed
  • Additional signage added at the crosswalk
  • A crossing guard program launched at Arbor View High School

Her family’s lawsuit points out these measures were feasible before May 2, 2025 — and should have been in place already.

Family’s Demand

The Scott family has requested a jury trial and more than $130,000 in damages.

The Clark County School District said it “does not comment on pending litigation.” The City of Las Vegas said it is “reviewing the filing.”

McKenzie Scott was days away from graduating. She deserved to walk across that stage.
