She Was Shot Outside Charlotte's Hottest Nightlife Strip — Now a Woman Is Charged With Her Murder

A night out near one of Charlotte’s most popular entertainment strips turned deadly — and within hours, police had already tracked down a suspect across state lines.

It happened just after 2 a.m. on May 21, on North Davidson Street near East 35th Street in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood — a bustling area lined with restaurants, bars, and apartments. That’s where 38-year-old Taylor Sylver was shot. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but didn’t survive.

What happened next was fast. Investigators identified 26-year-old Adaysia Yahel Coles as the suspect and tracked her down in Bessemer, just outside Birmingham, Alabama — with help from the FBI and local police. She was arrested and brought back to Charlotte to face justice.

Coles, a Winston-Salem woman, was charged with murder and extradited back to Charlotte. She is now in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

A family friend told local media that Taylor was a great woman from a nice family, and that her parents had already passed away — leaving only her sister as immediate family. Those who knew her say she simply got mixed up with the wrong people.

Police have not yet revealed what led to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
