A quiet Saturday morning turned frightening for one Pennsylvania family when a Tesla lost control on a rain-soaked highway — and an 11-year-old boy ended up in the hospital.
The crash happened at 7:45 a.m. on Interstate 78 westbound, near mile marker 2.5 in Swatara Township, Lebanon County. The driver of a 2018 Tesla Model S was traveling west on I-78 when he lost control in the left lane, swerving onto the right shoulder before striking an embankment and two trees.
The impact was hard enough to cause serious damage. The vehicle sustained damage to its front end, passenger side, and roof.
While the father walked away uninjured, his young son was not so lucky. The 11-year-old boy, who was seated in the front passenger seat, sustained a head injury and was transported by Life Lion EMS to Hershey Medical Center.
Heavy rain was falling at the time, and investigators believe weather played a major role. Wet roads during spring storms can turn even a short highway stretch into a danger zone — and this crash is a reminder of just how quickly things can go wrong.
The driver received a citation following the crash, and Pennsylvania State Police, along with the Northern Lebanon Fire Department and Bunkerhill and Fredericksburg Fire Departments, responded to the scene.
The child’s current condition has not been publicly updated. Prayers are with the family as they face this difficult recovery.
