The intense sequence of events unfolded around 5:54 p.m. near 7700 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., when officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly refused to yield — triggering a high-speed chase through busy city streets.
First Crash Leaves Passenger Ejected
As officers pursued the vehicle, the situation escalated near Genesee Avenue and Caminito Katerina. The driver crashed, and during the impact, the passenger was reportedly ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency responders quickly transported the passenger to a nearby hospital. Authorities have not released an update on the individual’s condition.
Driver Continues — Then Car Bursts Into Flames
Despite the serious crash, the driver allegedly continued fleeing. The pursuit came to a violent end near Mesa College Drive and Ashford Street, where the vehicle crashed again.
Moments after the second collision, smoke began pouring from the car. The driver managed to escape just before the vehicle was fully consumed by flames.
Fire crews responded swiftly to extinguish the blaze, but the car was destroyed. The driver was also taken to a hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
