Stray Bullet Strikes Florida Home, Injures Woman and Kills Beloved Pet During Armed Pursuit

A South Florida woman is recovering after a stray bullet pierced through her home, injuring her and killing her pet cat in a frightening incident tied to an armed chase, authorities confirmed.

The victim, Jill Minugh, described the experience as surreal after the unexpected gunfire shattered the safety of her home. The bullet entered her residence during a late-night incident and struck her in both legs before exiting, leaving her with multiple wounds.

“I was in shock. It all happened so fast,” Minugh said while recalling the moment that changed her life. Despite the severity of her injuries, she expressed gratitude that the bullet did not hit her bones, which could have resulted in more serious consequences.

Gunfire Linked to Robbery Investigation

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred when a 27-year-old man, identified as William Forhan, was reportedly robbed and then pursued the suspect while discharging a firearm multiple times. During the chase, one of the bullets traveled into Minugh’s home, striking her and tragically killing her cat, Max.

The pet was hit first before the bullet struck Minugh, a detail she believes may have spared her from more severe injuries. She now refers to Max as her “guardian angel,” crediting the animal’s presence with potentially saving her life.

“I screamed for my husband to get down because I didn’t know if more shots were coming,” she said.

Emotional Toll on the Family

The loss of Max has been especially heartbreaking for Minugh’s husband, Tom, who is currently battling throat and brain cancer. The cat had been a vital source of comfort and emotional support during his illness, making the tragedy even more devastating for the family.

“My husband is completely heartbroken,” Minugh shared. “Max meant everything to him during this difficult time.”

Recovery and Community Support

Minugh continues to recover from her injuries, but her mobility remains limited, making it difficult for her to care for her husband or return to work. Friends, family, and coworkers have rallied around the couple, helping with daily needs and arranging for Max’s cremation.

A fundraiser has also been established to help cover mounting medical expenses and provide financial relief as the couple navigates the aftermath of the incident.

A Call for Accountability and Safety

As investigators continue to review the case, no additional details regarding potential charges have been released. Authorities are urging caution and responsibility when handling firearms, especially in residential areas.

Minugh hopes her story serves as a powerful reminder about the dangers of reckless gunfire.

“You can’t just fire off shots,” she said. “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.”

The incident has sparked renewed conversations about public safety and the unintended consequences of violence, highlighting how a single stray bullet can alter lives in an instant.
