A tragic hit-and-run incident in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood has left one man dead and a community shaken.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the crash occurred around 8:10 p.m. Sunday near East Lehigh and Aramingo avenues. Officials say a man riding a mountain bike was struck by a car that fled the scene immediately after impact.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Authorities shared that a witness at the scene acted quickly, attempting to help the injured cyclist and providing crucial information. The witness reportedly noted the vehicle’s license plate and later spotted the car near a laundromat at Aramingo and Cambria. Police say several juveniles were seen fleeing from the vehicle shortly after.
A 21-year-old woman, identified as the daughter of the vehicle’s owner, has been taken into custody as a person of interest. Investigators are still working to determine her exact involvement.
Police also revealed that the victim was carrying a backpack containing multiple identification cards and a starter pistol, which is a non-functional replica firearm.
The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
