Two suspects are now in custody after Jackson police used high-tech surveillance cameras to track them down within hours of a brazen armed robbery on Vann Drive.
An armed robbery near the Sonic restaurant on Vann Drive turned into a swift manhunt — and police had suspects in handcuffs before the night was over. On May 7, 2026, two individuals allegedly carried out an armed robbery and fired a weapon in the area, sending officers into action immediately.
What made this arrest unusually fast? Jackson Police used the Flock camera system — a network of automated license plate readers and surveillance cameras — to identify and locate the suspects in a matter of hours. Patrol officers and K9 units moved in quickly once the vehicle was tracked down near Northside Drive.
“Their vehicle was intercepted near Northside Drive — the suspects fled on foot but didn’t get far.”
Both suspects were caught after a brief foot pursuit. The rapid response is being credited to the combination of patrol readiness and the Flock system’s ability to track vehicles across the city in real time.
Police are also reminding residents that a Safe Exchange Zone is available at 234 Institute St. — a designated public spot for completing private transactions like Marketplace or Craigslist deals, where the presence of cameras and officers can deter would-be robbers.
