Thibodaux Man Arrested Months After Crash Critically Injured Two Children

Lafourche Parish, Louisiana — A months-long investigation into a serious crash that left two children critically injured has led to the arrest of a Thibodaux man, according to Louisiana State Police.

What Happened

Authorities say the crash occurred on January 29, 2026, just before 4:00 p.m. along Talbot Avenue near Meadows Circle in Lafourche Parish. The area was active with after-school activity when the incident unfolded.

Investigators reported that two juvenile pedestrians had just exited a school bus and were standing off the roadway when the crash happened.

How the Crash Unfolded

According to Louisiana State Police Troop C, a 2004 Chevrolet Impala was traveling northbound when it allegedly crossed into the southbound lane in a clearly marked no-passing zone while attempting to overtake traffic.

As the driver attempted to return to the correct lane, officials say he lost control of the vehicle. The car then struck the rear of another vehicle before veering off the roadway and hitting the two children.

Injuries and Emergency Response

Both children suffered severe injuries and were transported to hospitals outside the immediate area for urgent medical care. Authorities also confirmed that several occupants in the involved vehicles, including other juveniles, were injured in the crash.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the impact of the incident left a lasting effect on those involved and the local community.

Arrest and Charges

Following an extensive investigation, including toxicology testing, officials determined that the driver, identified as 58-year-old Brian Lang of Thibodaux, allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit at the time of the crash.

An arrest warrant was issued through the 17th Judicial District Court. On Monday, Lang was taken into custody and booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

He now faces multiple charges, including:

  • First-degree vehicular negligent injuring
  • Driving while impaired (second offense)
  • Reckless operation of a vehicle

Ongoing Investigation

Officials say the case remains under active investigation as they continue reviewing evidence and circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities are urging drivers to remain cautious, especially in school zones and residential areas, where children may be present during peak hours.
