Washington County Community Hosts Fundraiser to Honor Teen Lost in Dirt Bike Tragedy

Washington County residents gathered in a heartfelt show of support this week to remember a 16-year-old student who lost his life following a dirt bike accident earlier this month.

Ayden Stahl, a student at California Area High School, was riding an electric dirt bike on March 13 when he collided with a fallen tree obstructing the roadway. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he passed away the following day.

In the wake of the tragedy, the community united at the California Volunteer Fire Department for a fish fry fundraiser dedicated to supporting Stahl’s family. The department accepted donations throughout the event to help ease the financial burden the family may face during this difficult time.

Mayor Frank Stetar, who also serves as president of the fire department, reflected on the emotional toll such incidents take on first responders and the broader community. He noted that while tragic calls never become easier, witnessing the town rally together offers a sense of comfort and strength.

The fish fry, which began at 11 a.m., saw an overwhelming turnout. Organizers described it as one of the busiest events they have hosted in recent years, with community members lining up throughout the day to contribute and show their support.

Attendees shared that whether or not they personally knew Stahl or his family, they felt compelled to help. Many expressed sympathy for the grieving family and emphasized the importance of standing together in times of loss.

Additional fundraising efforts are planned in the coming days. On March 22, the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Company will host a boot drive from noon to 3 p.m., collecting donations along Route 88 in front of the fire station. Later in the month, on March 28, a bingo fundraiser will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with tickets priced at $25 per person.

Donations continue to be accepted at the California Volunteer Fire Department and the borough building as the community remains committed to supporting the Stahl family during this challenging time.
