A pedestrian was seriously injured Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle along Interstate 10 East near Downtown, marking the third such incident in El Paso within a single day.
According to a Fire Department spokesperson, the crash occurred around 8 p.m. Emergency crews responded quickly and transported the victim to a nearby hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries under a Code 3 designation.
Authorities confirmed that the Special Traffic Investigations (STI) unit was called to the scene. This specialized team typically handles severe crashes, particularly those involving critical injuries or fatalities, indicating the seriousness of the incident.
The Texas Department of Transportation reported that all eastbound lanes of I-10 at Downtown were closed following the crash. Officials have not provided a clear timeline for reopening, stating only that closures will remain in place until further notice as the investigation continues.
This incident follows two other pedestrian-related crashes earlier Sunday. One occurred in the early morning hours at the intersection of Kansas and Texas streets in Downtown, while another took place Sunday afternoon along I-10 East at Paisano in Central El Paso.
Police have not yet released details about what led to the latest crash or whether any charges will be filed. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding all three incidents.
Residents are urged to exercise caution, especially during nighttime hours, as authorities continue their investigation.
