Woman Arrested After Mother of Three Suffers Critical Injuries in Brutal Dog Attack

A Mississippi woman has been arrested following a horrific dog attack that left a mother of three fighting for her life earlier this month, according to authorities.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old LaKesha Newsom, was discovered severely injured on March 3 in a shallow ditch. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and immediately airlifted her to a nearby hospital due to the life-threatening nature of her injuries. During transport, Newsom reportedly went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated by medical personnel.

Doctors were able to stabilize her condition, ultimately saving her life. However, the attack left her with devastating injuries, including extensive trauma that may result in the loss of multiple limbs. Family members described the emotional toll of seeing Newsom covered in bandages, connected to life-support equipment, and unable to communicate.

After several days in critical care, Newsom regained consciousness and was able to recount the terrifying ordeal to her loved ones. Her mother, Rosie Young, shared the emotional moment, recalling her daughter’s determination to survive.

“She felt the dogs gnawing on her, eating on her,” Young said. “The only thing in her mind was, ‘I want to live.’ And I told her, ‘For you to be here today, you have life in you.’”

Family members initially suspected that the severity of Newsom’s injuries suggested negligence or foul play. Their concerns were later confirmed when investigators from the Holly Springs Police Department announced the arrest of 54-year-old Sandra Harris in connection with the attack.

Authorities charged Harris with aggravated assault, citing conduct that demonstrated extreme indifference to the value of human life. Police allege that Harris was responsible for the dogs involved in the attack, though additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been publicly disclosed.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to gather evidence and assess whether additional charges may be filed. Meanwhile, Newsom’s family has focused on supporting her recovery, describing her survival as nothing short of miraculous.

Community members have expressed shock and sympathy for Newsom and her children, while local authorities have reiterated the importance of responsible pet ownership and public safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.

As Newsom begins a long and uncertain journey toward recovery, her family remains hopeful and grateful that she survived the brutal attack. “She’s still here,” Young said. “That’s all that matters right now.”
