A coordinated narcotics operation in Zapata County resulted in the arrest of two local residents after authorities recovered cocaine, marijuana, and thousands of dollars in cash during a court-authorized search.
Deputies executed a search warrant on Thursday, March 26, following weeks of investigation into suspected drug-related activity in the area. Law enforcement officials said the operation was part of a broader effort to address ongoing narcotics distribution concerns within the community.
During the search, investigators recovered more than 20 grams of cocaine and approximately 56 grams of marijuana. In addition to the drugs, officers seized over $4,000 in cash believed to be connected to illegal drug transactions.
Authorities arrested 37-year-old Abraham Bernabe Presas and 53-year-old Leticia Garza at the scene. Both individuals are facing felony charges, including organized criminal activity and felony drug delivery.
Presas has also been charged with possession of marijuana. Garza faces an additional felony charge of tampering with evidence, according to investigators.
Officials have not disclosed further details about the scope of the investigation but indicated that the case remains active. Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize their commitment to targeting drug distribution networks and reducing narcotics-related crime in Zapata County.
Both suspects were taken into custody and are expected to face further legal proceedings in connection with the charges.
