5 Arrested After Months-Long Cattle Theft Ring Uncovered in Williamson County

Authorities in Williamson County have arrested five individuals following a detailed investigation into an organized cattle theft operation that reportedly caused significant losses to local ranchers.

The case began on December 3, 2025, when officers from the Florence Police Department stopped a pickup truck towing a trailer without proper lighting. Inside, they discovered three recently killed cattle along with evidence suggesting illegal slaughter.

Further investigation revealed the animals had been stolen from Capitol Land & Livestock in Schwertner. Officials believe the suspects were part of a coordinated operation responsible for stealing and processing nearly 70 cattle over several months.

Investigators identified a pattern of pasture fencing being cut in a consistent way across multiple locations. Evidence recovered included ammunition, animal processing tools, and photos found on a suspect’s phone showing stolen livestock.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, digital forensics, cell phone data, witness statements, and physical evidence confirmed that all five suspects were working together.

Sheriff Matt Lindemann stated that the case highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling agricultural crime. Assisting agencies included the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

The suspects are currently held in county jail and face third-degree felony charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
