Tennessee Teen's Own Family Handed Him Over to Police After Fatal Hit-and-Run — Video Showed Him Hiding the Evidence

A 19-year-old Tennessee man is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly ramming his Nissan Altima into a motorcyclist and fleeing the scene — only to be turned in by his own family members who recorded him trying to cover up the crime.

Anderson Josuan Perdomo Escobar has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident knowing death resulted, tampering with evidence, and driving without a license, according to Knox County jail records. He is also being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

What Happened That Night

On Thursday evening around 9 p.m., Perdomo Escobar was driving in the Cedar Bluff area, just west of Knoxville, Tennessee. A motorcyclist was traveling on the same road when the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Dutchtown and Bob Kirby roads.

The motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

Instead of stopping to help or calling 911, Perdomo Escobar allegedly kept driving — leaving the dying victim alone on the road.

Family Members Caught Him on Camera

Investigators quickly identified the striking vehicle as a Nissan Altima and tracked it to Perdomo Escobar’s home. What they found there was shocking.

His own family members handed police video footage showing Perdomo Escobar arriving home that night with visible damage to the car. The video then showed him removing the license plate from the vehicle and moving the car to the side of the house — an apparent attempt to hide evidence.

That footage became a key piece of evidence against him.

He Admitted to Leaving the Scene

When officers confronted Perdomo Escobar, he did not deny his involvement. He admitted to being in the crash but told investigators he drove away “because he was scared.”

Admitting fear, however, does not excuse leaving a victim to die — and Tennessee law takes hit-and-run cases involving death very seriously.

Charges and What’s Next

Perdomo Escobar was booked into Knox County jail on the following charges:

  • Leaving the scene of an accident knowing death resulted
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Driving without a license

He is also being held on an ICE immigration detainer.

His arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday.

The case is a reminder that in the age of smartphones, evidence can come from anywhere — even your own home. The family’s decision to cooperate with police and share the video is what ultimately helped crack the case wide open.
