A horrifying Tuesday evening turned deadly in Manhattan Beach when a driver lost control and sent her vehicle crashing straight into a laundromat — killing a woman who was simply doing her laundry.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on the 900 block of Aviation Boulevard. Authorities are still investigating what caused the driver to slam into the building.
The victim was inside the laundromat when the car tore through the wall and struck her directly. She died from her injuries at the scene. Police have not yet released her name.
Witness Bryson Garcia described the terrifying scene he encountered after the crash.
“I did see someone who was under the car,” Garcia said. “It looked like they were under the car and their arm was stuck in between the car and a washing machine.”
The driver, a woman, was completely unhurt. She remained at the scene and is currently cooperating with the Manhattan Beach Police Department’s investigation.
Investigators have not confirmed whether alcohol was a factor in the deadly crash, and the case remains under active investigation.
The Manhattan Beach Police Department is asking anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward as they work to determine exactly what caused this fatal crash.
This is a developing story. More details will be updated as they become available.
