Byron, California– A dramatic sequence of events unfolded in the East Bay on Monday after a violent car crash escalated into a carjacking and a brief police pursuit, ultimately ending with the suspect’s arrest in Contra Costa County.
Crash Triggers Chain of Events
According to authorities, the incident began in Byron, where a driver was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. Following the crash, the suspect exited the damaged vehicle and fled the scene on foot, creating panic among nearby motorists.
Moments later, the suspect carjacked another driver at the scene, forcibly taking control of the vehicle before speeding away.
“The situation escalated very quickly from a traffic collision into a serious felony,” officials said.
CHP Launches Short Pursuit
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were immediately alerted and located the stolen vehicle shortly after the carjacking. Officers initiated a short but intense pursuit through parts of Contra Costa County.
The chase ended without further injuries when CHP successfully stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.
