A 37-year-old man was killed Saturday evening following a single-vehicle rollover crash in St. Clair County, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 in Kenockee Township, as winter weather conditions created hazardous roadways across the area.
What happened
Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a rollover crash near the intersection of Kilgore Road and Imlay City Road. Dispatchers informed responding units that CPR was already being administered at the scene by bystanders.
Investigators determined that the driver, a 37-year-old Kenockee Township resident, was traveling northbound on Kilgore Road in a Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control of the vehicle due to snowy and icy road conditions.
Vehicle left roadway, overturned
Police said the truck veered off the roadway, entered the west-side ditch, and overturned at least once. During the rollover, the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities did not immediately confirm whether the man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency medical personnel transported the man by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Ongoing investigation
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crash. Deputies are examining road conditions, vehicle speed, and other contributing factors to determine the full cause of the incident. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
Officials reminded drivers to exercise extreme caution during winter weather, noting that snow and ice can significantly reduce traction and increase the risk of losing control, especially on rural roads.
Anyone with information related to the crash is encouraged to contact the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation remains ongoing.
