Woodland Man With Prior Warrant Arrested After Allegedly Trying to Lure Children

A 50-year-old Woodland resident has been arrested after authorities say he attempted to lure two young children to a secluded location. Investigators also discovered the man had an outstanding arrest warrant tied to similar allegations from years ago.

Bernardo Sanchez was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at his home on Plane Avenue in Woodland. The arrest came more than a week after the alleged incident involving an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old.

According to officials, Sanchez approached the two children and attempted to persuade them to go to a remote property. The children declined and immediately returned home, where they informed their parents about what had happened. Their parents promptly contacted authorities.

By the time law enforcement responded, Sanchez had reportedly left his residence and traveled to a nearby county. Over the following days, investigators worked to positively identify him as the suspect.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered a criminal history dating back more than two decades, including similar offenses. Officials also determined that Sanchez had an active arrest warrant issued approximately eight years ago in connection with alleged lewd acts involving a minor.

When officers searched his home, they reported finding a handgun and a significant quantity of ammunition.

Sanchez was booked into the Yolo County Jail and is facing multiple charges related to child sexual assault and weapons violations. The investigation remains ongoing.
