A tragic incident in Brooklyn has left a community shaken after a 44-year-old woman lost her life in a hit-and-run involving an ambulance early Thursday morning.
According to law enforcement officials, the woman was crossing Ocean Avenue at Avenue O in Midwood shortly after 6:30 a.m. when she was struck by an ambulance operated by Maimonides Medical Center. Investigators say the vehicle was making a turn at the time of the collision and did not stop after impact.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows the woman had just exited a public bus and was running across the crosswalk when the ambulance hit her. Witnesses at the scene described the moment as sudden and devastating, suggesting the driver may not have seen her while turning.
The victim was transported to the same hospital linked to the ambulance but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether hospital staff were aware of the circumstances surrounding her arrival.
Initially, police were unable to locate the vehicle or driver involved. Later developments revealed that the hospital has suspended the EMT staff connected to the incident pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
