Sunbury, Pa. — A 42-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she overdosed inside her home while her young child was present and unattended.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched to the residence shortly before 11 p.m. on September 15 following a report of an overdose. Patrolman Tyler Herbster arrived at the scene and found Erin Lea Schenherr unresponsive on the floor.
Police administered Narcan, an opioid-reversal medication, and Schenherr eventually regained consciousness.
During a safety check of the home, officers discovered that Schenherr’s young daughter was also inside. No other adults were present at the time. Investigators reported finding drug-related items, including a snorting straw and a baggie with residue, in areas that were easily accessible to the child.
Authorities noted that the situation could have posed serious risk to the child, especially while Schenherr was unconscious and unable to respond.
Schenherr has been charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charge was filed through the office of District Judge Rachel Wiest-Benner.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 21.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns around substance abuse and child safety, particularly in situations where minors may be left vulnerable due to medical emergencies or drug-related incidents within the home.
