Silver Alert Issued for Missing 87-Year-Old Man in Jones County, Search Efforts Expand

Authorities in Jones County are actively searching for an elderly man who went missing from the Currie community, prompting a Silver Alert and an urgent call for public assistance.

According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, 87-year-old Harvey Lee Roberts was last seen around 4 p.m. on April 12 at a residence on Currie Road. Family members reported that they had taken a nap shortly after seeing him, only to wake up and discover he was gone.

Roberts is described as a Black man, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 98 pounds, with black and gray hair. At the time he disappeared, he was wearing a gray shirt and red shorts. Officials say there is currently no known direction of travel.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued a Silver Alert due to concerns about Roberts’ safety. Authorities confirmed he suffers from a medical condition that may affect his judgment, increasing the urgency of the search.

Search efforts have intensified, with local Search & Rescue teams covering an expanding area along and around Currie Road. Deputies are also following up on incoming leads as they are received.

Residents in the surrounding area are being asked to check any available security camera footage from after 4 p.m. on April 12 for possible sightings.
