A dangerous line of overnight thunderstorms is headed straight for southwest and central Ohio — and most residents won’t even be awake when it arrives.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued an alert for storms expected to move through the region between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., bringing damaging wind gusts strong enough to down trees, knock out power, and make highways hazardous while most families are sleeping.
Cincinnati gets hit first. Stronger storm cells are expected to push into the Cincinnati metro around midnight before tracking northeast toward Dayton and into central Ohio through early morning hours. Columbus could also see impacts before the storms clear.
Roads could turn dangerous fast. Rain arriving ahead of the main storms may create slick conditions on I-75, I-71, and I-70 late this evening. Local roads with heavy tree cover or poor drainage are at higher risk of becoming temporarily blocked or impassable.
Authorities are urging residents to take action before bed tonight — but there’s one specific precaution officials say is most critical before you fall asleep.
