A beloved Iowa winery that hosted weddings and special events for four decades has officially announced it will be closing its doors for good.
What Happened?
Summerset Winery, located near Indianola, Iowa, suffered major damage after a waterline ruptured on the property. The cost to repair the damage and reopen the winery was simply too high for the owners to manage.
Owners Tried Everything
In a statement, the owners said they explored every possible option to save the winery. However, rising material costs, high interest rates, and repair estimates much higher than expected made it impossible to move forward.
40 Years of Memories
Summerset Winery first began growing grapes on Summerset Ridge back in 1989. Since 2001, the winery operated out of a large barn that housed its cellar, tasting room, and multiple event spaces — becoming a go-to destination for weddings and community gatherings across Iowa.
A Final Farewell Auction
The owners plan to hold a special auction so that loyal customers and community members can take a piece of the winery home as a keepsake. Full auction details will be released soon.
