He Jumped Over the Counter — What This Gas Station Robber Did Next Has Deputies Searching for Answers

HAWTHORNE, Fla. — A masked man armed with a knife terrorized a gas station employee in Hawthorne late Sunday night, and Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies are now turning to the public for help tracking him down.

The robbery happened shortly after 10 p.m. at the Chevron gas station on U.S. Highway 301, near Southeast 75th Avenue.

According to deputies, the suspect — dressed in black and gray with his face covered — walked into the store and jumped over the counter. He then assaulted the employee and threatened them with a knife before swiping a large amount of cash from the register.

After the robbery, he fled on foot heading north.

Investigators say they do not believe this incident is connected to a separate armed gas station robbery that occurred in eastern Alachua County on May 10.
