A newborn baby was found unharmed in the backseat of a car in Detroit on Wednesday — but the two adults in the front seat were not so lucky.
Detroit police responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the 9600 block of McKinney Street around 1:48 p.m. after sensors detected nine gunshots, followed by three more.
When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman dead at the scene.
The 1-month-old infant in the backseat was uninjured. Police took the baby to a nearby precinct, where they were later reunited with family members.
Commander John Svec said investigators believe the shooting was targeted. Two vehicles were parked in the area at the time, and it appears a suspect approached the cars on foot and opened fire.
The identities of the two victims have not been released. Their connection to the infant also remains unclear.
No arrests have been announced. The investigation is ongoing.
