Man Arrested After Brutal Morning Assault Near San Francisco’s UN Plaza

San Francisco police have taken a suspect into custody following a violent early-morning attack that left a woman with life-threatening injuries near UN Plaza.

The incident unfolded shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday near the intersection of 7th and Market streets. Officers who were patrolling the area reported witnessing what appeared to be an aggravated assault in progress. Authorities say they quickly intervened, detaining a man who was attempting to leave the scene.

At the same time, officers provided assistance to a woman found lying on the ground with serious injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for critical, life-threatening wounds.

The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old Cole Wright of Oakland. Police said he was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury. Officials also confirmed that Wright had three active out-of-county warrants at the time of his arrest.

He has since been booked into the San Francisco County Main Jail as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the attack.
