Waco, Texas: A 26-year-old Waco man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after authorities said he stole a woman’s vehicle, ran over her twice, and later attempted to flee from police during a tense standoff in September 2025.
According to court officials, Corrian “Cory” Evans pleaded guilty Thursday in Waco’s 54th State District Court to charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest with a vehicle. The plea agreement included concurrent seven-year prison sentences for both charges.
Associate Judge Rob Swanton accepted the agreement and formally sentenced Evans to prison. Officials said Evans must serve at least half of his sentence — approximately three and a half years — before becoming eligible for parole consideration.
The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. in the 4000 block of Bosque Boulevard in Waco. Arrest documents state that a woman reported Evans forcibly pulled her out of her vehicle before driving away. During the theft, investigators say the victim was struck and run over twice by the vehicle as Evans fled the area.
Authorities later received reports that the stolen vehicle had been located at the AutoNation dealership on North Valley Mills Drive, prompting a major police response.
Officers surrounded the vehicle and repeatedly ordered Evans to surrender, according to the arrest affidavit. Police said Evans refused to comply, leading officers to fire weapons into the vehicle during the confrontation. Even then, investigators said Evans continued resisting commands.
Authorities then deployed tear gas into the vehicle in an effort to force Evans out. During the attempted escape, Evans reportedly drove over tire-deflation spikes, severely damaging all four tires before officers were finally able to take him into custody.
Investigators later confirmed that the victim positively identified Evans as the man who stole her vehicle and ran over her during the robbery.
Despite the violent nature of the incident, police said the woman did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Court records state the indictment accused Evans of causing bodily injury by striking the victim with the moving vehicle’s door and by driving over her body while fleeing the scene.
The case drew significant attention in Waco due to the dangerous police confrontation and the severity of the allegations tied to the car theft incident.
