Reserve, Louisiana: A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins that recently unsettled residents in the area, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the juvenile is believed to be linked to at least 11 vehicle burglaries reported over a span of two weeks in April. All of the incidents occurred within Reserve, raising concerns among locals about safety in their neighborhoods.
The situation came to a head early Monday morning, April 13, when a deputy responded to a call about a suspicious individual in the 500 block of West 10th Street at approximately 12:35 a.m. Upon arrival, the deputy noticed a vehicle with its hazard lights turned on and spotted a person walking through a nearby business driveway.
When deputies approached and detained the individual, they discovered the suspect was a 13-year-old boy. During the interaction, the teen reportedly told deputies that he had a gun in his pocket. Investigators believe the firearm may have been taken during one of the earlier vehicle burglaries connected to the case.
Following his arrest, the juvenile was booked on multiple charges, including attempted theft of a motor vehicle and illegal possession of a handgun by a minor. In addition, he faces several other charges such as criminal trespass, multiple counts of simple criminal damage to property, and a curfew violation.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that the investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as more details emerge. Authorities are continuing to review evidence and assess whether the suspect may be connected to any other incidents in the area.
The case has drawn attention due to the young age of the suspect, highlighting broader concerns about juvenile involvement in criminal activity. Local officials have not released the identity of the minor due to his age.
Residents with any information related to the case are encouraged to contact the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS. They can also reach out to the Criminal Investigations Division or provide anonymous tips through Crimestoppers.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly.
