A person is dead after being hit by a Regional Transportation District train in Arvada early Sunday morning, and investigators are still trying to figure out how it happened — even though they say the safety signals were doing their job.
Arvada police received a call at 12:15 a.m. Sunday about a collision between an RTD train and a pedestrian along the G Line route, near Allison Street. Officers arrived to find the person had been killed.
“All rail crossing warning signals appeared to be functioning properly at the time of the crash,” according to the Arvada Police Department.
That detail raises a question investigators are now working to answer: if the lights were flashing and the arms were down, why was someone on the tracks?
Police have not released the identity of the person who was killed, and no further details about the individual have been made public at this time.
