An 18-Wheeler Slammed Into a Minivan — 2 Men Died, 2 Were Airlifted. What Happened on 301 South?

Two men are dead and two others are fighting for their lives after a violent collision Saturday evening on U.S. 301 South — a road that has now claimed four lives in just a matter of weeks.

“The minivan was turning left onto 301 South from Oakwood Drive when the 18-wheeler tanker hit it broadside.”
Trooper First-Class Carl Hutchinson, Georgia State Patrol

According to Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch, the two male passengers — one in the front seat, one in the back — were killed and pronounced dead at the scene. The minivan’s driver and a young rear-seat passenger survived the crash but were rushed to East Georgia Regional Medical Center before both were airlifted in critical condition to a hospital in Savannah.

The victims were from Camden County and had been visiting family in the area. They were heading home when the crash occurred near Newell Recycling — just a short distance from where two pedestrians were also killed in a separate incident only weeks ago.

Several Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to the scene shortly after 7:10 p.m. The identities of the victims had not been released at press time. The condition of the tanker truck’s driver also remained unknown.
