A bold smash-and-grab robbery at a family-owned jewelry store in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, has left residents stunned and police searching for multiple suspects.
The incident unfolded Wednesday afternoon on Madison Avenue, where several individuals smashed the front window of SD Jewelry and quickly grabbed items, stuffing them into garbage bags before attempting to flee. The robbery happened in broad daylight, just steps away from a police substation, adding to the shock of nearby business owners.
Inside the store, a mother and daughter—who run the business—refused to back down. Despite the danger, both women confronted the suspects as they tried to escape in a BMW. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the pair attempted to pull the robbers from the vehicle, even as it reversed and struck a parked car.
“They fought back with everything they had,” said a nearby business owner, who watched the situation unfold. “It was brave, but also very scary.”
As the suspects sped off, the mother was knocked to the ground. Other bystanders attempted to intervene, but fear of possible weapons forced them to step back.
Authorities confirmed that no weapons were displayed and no serious injuries were reported. Police briefly pursued the suspects, but they remain at large.
The incident has left the tight-knit community rattled, with many questioning how such a crime could happen so openly. Investigators continue to gather evidence and urge anyone with information to come forward.
