An early morning traffic collision in Fort Lauderdale led to a second crash involving a responding fire engine, leaving three civilians injured and prompting major road closures during peak commute hours.
Emergency crews were first dispatched around 4:15 a.m. to the intersection of West Broward Boulevard and 7th Avenue following reports of a serious two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, first responders found significant damage to both vehicles and multiple injured occupants at the scene.
Paramedics quickly assessed the victims and transported three individuals to Broward Health Medical Center’s trauma unit for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not yet been publicly disclosed, but officials described the situation as serious enough to require immediate trauma care.
While firefighters were actively managing the scene and assisting victims from the initial collision, a separate vehicle struck Fort Lauderdale Engine 2. The fire engine had been positioned to secure the crash site and protect emergency personnel working on the roadway.
Fortunately, none of the three firefighters inside the engine were injured in the secondary crash. Authorities confirmed that the crew remained on duty following evaluation and continued assisting at the scene.
The double incident forced authorities to shut down both eastbound and westbound lanes of Broward Boulevard for several hours. The closure created significant traffic delays during the Wednesday morning commute, with drivers urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding both crashes, including what led to the second vehicle striking the fire engine. It remains unclear whether speed, visibility, or other factors contributed to the chain of events.
Motorists are reminded to exercise caution when approaching emergency scenes and to move over or slow down when first responders are working on active roadways.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
