Grandmother Shot Dead in Front of Grandson Over a Fender Bender — Neighbor Admits to Pulling the Trigger

A simple parking mistake turned into an unthinkable tragedy in St. Louis when a 55-year-old grandmother was shot and killed — right in front of her grandson — after his car accidentally tapped a neighbor’s vehicle.

Shirley Johnson was sitting in a car with her grandson, Markel McCurry, outside her home on March 31 when neighbor Jamal Jones, 32, allegedly opened fire on them. Police say the shooting happened moments after McCurry had accidentally backed into Jones’ car.

McCurry had stepped out of the vehicle to offer to pay for the damage — but it was already too late.

Jones was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. During a police interview, he allegedly made a chilling statement about the victim and her grandson that has left the community speechless.

McCurry, still in shock, described his grandmother as his “best friend” — and said he will never forget the texts she used to send him every time she cooked.

Jones has no prior criminal history and his defense attorney claims he is currently experiencing memory issues. A bond hearing has been scheduled.

The full details of Jones’ shocking statement, the family’s emotional reaction, and what happens next in this case…
