Harlem, New York: A 49-year-old man has been charged following a devastating crash in Harlem that claimed the life of a food delivery worker and left several others injured Thursday night, police said.
Authorities identified the driver as Kevin Crosby, who now faces charges including manslaughter and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The incident unfolded shortly after 8 p.m. along West 125th Street near Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. Surveillance footage captured a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed before striking two cyclists. The car continued forward, colliding with two additional occupied vehicles, an unoccupied NYPD cruiser, and a parked tractor-trailer.
Both cyclists were rushed to a nearby hospital. One of them, 28-year-old Darly Zacarias of the Bronx, was pronounced dead. The second cyclist remains in critical condition. Police confirmed that both victims were working as food delivery drivers at the time of the crash.
Footage from the scene shows pedestrians scrambling to get out of the way as the speeding vehicle tore down the corridor, with sparks visible as the car made contact with other vehicles. Witnesses described the chaos and fear in the moments leading up to the impact.
Three individuals inside the other vehicles struck by the driver were transported to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Crosby was taken into custody at the scene.
The crash has once again raised concerns about street safety along West 125th Street, a corridor long criticized for its lack of protected bike infrastructure. Safety advocates note that the area has seen multiple serious injuries and fatalities involving cyclists, with limited protected bike lanes across the district.
Community leaders and transportation safety groups are continuing calls for expanded protected bike lanes in the area, arguing that stronger infrastructure could help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The investigation remains ongoing.
