PENDLETON, Ind. — A 41-year-old man is recovering in an Indianapolis hospital after his motorcycle slammed into a roundabout late Monday night — and investigators say the full story may not be clear until toxicology results come back.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. on May 25 near the 3000 block of State Road 38 in Pendleton, not far from Interstate 69. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the man was riding a 1981 Honda motorcycle eastbound when he struck the roundabout and was thrown from the bike.
“He was unconscious at the scene” — the kind of detail that signals just how violent the impact was.
Emergency crews airlifted him to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. As of the latest update, he is listed in stable condition.
The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash — a detail that investigators and medical responders noted. Despite the severity of the impact, his condition is stable.
Police have not yet made any charges or citations, partly because a key piece of the puzzle is still missing: toxicology results. While investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, they have not confirmed it. The Sheriff’s Department says they are waiting on those lab reports before drawing final conclusions.
The investigation into the crash remains open and ongoing.
