Huntsville, Alabama — A heartbreaking incident in Huntsville, Alabama has left a family shattered after a 4-month-old baby was allegedly killed by her father, followed by the child’s mother taking her own life the next day, according to police and official reports.
Authorities say the incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon when officers from the Huntsville Police Department responded to a distress call around 1 p.m. on the 11000 block of Memorial Parkway. The report indicated that an infant was not breathing, prompting an immediate emergency response.
When first responders arrived at the scene, emergency medical teams attempted life-saving measures before rushing the baby to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, the infant was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Investigation and Arrest
According to police, the infant’s father, 34-year-old Mickele Kaipolai Ah-Nee, was present with the child at the time she stopped breathing. This raised immediate concerns, leading the Huntsville Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit to launch an investigation.
An autopsy conducted by Madison County Coroner Dr. Tyler Berryhill later revealed that the baby’s death was caused by “complications of traumatic internal injuries,” indicating foul play.
Following further investigation and questioning, authorities determined there was probable cause to arrest Ah-Nee. He was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder involving domestic violence.
Officials confirmed that he is currently being held in the Madison County Jail without bond. In addition to the murder charge, he also faces a charge for driving with an expired license. Details regarding his court appearance have not yet been released.
Family Devastated by Double Tragedy
In an even more tragic development, the baby’s mother, Molly McKelvey, died the following morning after taking her own life, according to statements from family members.
The loss of both the infant and her mother within such a short time has deeply impacted the family. Relatives described the baby as joyful and full of life, while remembering the mother as a loving and kind person.
Molly McKelvey is survived by two young sons, along with her extended family, including siblings and her mother.
Community Response
The family has since started a fundraiser to help cope with the emotional and financial burden caused by the sudden losses. Loved ones say they are struggling to process the tragedy while supporting the surviving children.
Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
This case has once again raised concerns about domestic violence and child safety, with officials urging the public to remain aware and report any signs of abuse to local authorities.
