A late-night outbreak of violence in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) district turned deadly Friday, leaving one man dead and two others injured. Authorities confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police, officers were dispatched around 11:12 p.m. to reports of gunfire near the intersection of 3rd and Harrison streets. When they arrived, they discovered an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and lying on the ground.
Officers immediately began administering emergency aid, including CPR, until paramedics arrived and continued life-saving efforts. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators also located two additional individuals at the scene who had been physically assaulted during the same altercation. Although they were not shot, both sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials described their injuries as non-life-threatening.
Multiple police units secured the area while officers canvassed the neighborhood for potential suspects and evidence. Shortly afterward, two individuals were detained near the scene. Following further investigation, homicide detectives established probable cause and formally arrested both men.
The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Edwin Depaz Maldonado of Richmond and 20-year-old Andy Segura Giron of San Rafael. Both were booked into the San Francisco County Jail.
Maldonado is facing charges that include murder and resisting arrest. Giron has been charged with assault likely to produce great bodily injury.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what led to the shooting or whether the individuals involved were known to one another. The motive remains under investigation.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has additional information to come forward and assist investigators as the case continues to develop.
