Suspected Drug-Impaired Driver Triggers Deadly Three-Vehicle Crash on Silverado Trail in Napa County

A tragic multi-vehicle collision along Napa County’s scenic Silverado Trail left three people dead and several others hospitalized Saturday afternoon, as authorities investigate allegations that one of the drivers was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

According to law enforcement officials, emergency crews were dispatched around noon to the area near Oak Knoll Avenue, approximately six miles north of the city of Napa, following reports of a serious crash involving three vehicles.

How the Crash Unfolded

Preliminary findings indicate that a Mitsubishi sedan traveling southbound on Silverado Trail crossed into the northbound lane and sideswiped a BMW SUV. After the initial impact, the Mitsubishi continued forward and collided head-on with a Toyota sedan traveling behind the BMW.

The force of the crash caused extensive damage to all three vehicles and resulted in multiple serious injuries at the scene.

Fatalities and Injuries

Authorities confirmed that three individuals lost their lives as a result of the collision:

  • One passenger in the Mitsubishi was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • A second passenger in the same vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
  • A passenger in the Toyota sedan also died after being hospitalized with major injuries.

Four occupants of the Toyota were rushed to local hospitals with significant injuries. Medical teams are continuing to monitor their conditions.

The driver and passenger of the BMW SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and reported pain at the scene.

Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as 68-year-old William Brumley of Vallejo, was transported to a hospital for treatment. After medical evaluation, officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Authorities stated he is expected to survive his injuries.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the deceased victims, pending notification of family members.

Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation

The deadly crash forced the closure of Silverado Trail for several hours as investigators documented the scene and cleared debris. Motorists were diverted to Highway 29 during the shutdown.

Law enforcement agencies continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision, including toxicology results and witness statements. Officials are urging anyone who may have seen the crash or events leading up to it to come forward with information.

This devastating incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with impaired driving and the irreversible consequences it can have for families and communities.
