Peoria, Illinois — A disturbing case of alleged domestic violence has emerged from Peoria, Illinois, where a 21-year-old man is accused of brutally attacking his girlfriend for several hours inside their home. Authorities say the violence only ended when the suspect fell asleep, allowing the victim to escape and seek help.
According to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, the accused, identified as Johnnie Chiaravalle, is facing multiple serious charges, including two counts of aggravated domestic battery, along with domestic battery and unlawful restraint. He remains in custody as he awaits further court proceedings.

The incident came to light on Monday when police were called to the East Bluff Community Center after receiving reports that a woman had been severely attacked. Officers responding to the scene encountered a victim with visible and extensive injuries.
Authorities reported that the woman’s eyes were nearly swollen shut, and she had multiple cuts, bruises, and lacerations across her body. Her condition indicated prolonged and repeated violence.
Allegations of Prolonged Assault
According to police statements, the victim told officers that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend over a period of eight to nine hours. She alleged that during the ordeal, she was not allowed to leave the residence and was subjected to repeated physical attacks.
Investigators say the suspect allegedly struck her multiple times using his fists, targeting her face, head, and body. The assault reportedly resulted in a fractured nose, along with widespread bruising and injuries.
The victim further claimed that the suspect strangled her multiple times during the attack, escalating the severity of the situation. In addition, she told authorities that knives were thrown at her, causing further injuries to her legs.
Escape and Police Response
The situation reportedly ended when the suspect fell asleep, giving the victim an opportunity to escape the home. She then sought help, leading to the emergency call that brought officers to the scene.
Police later went to the residence where they encountered the suspect. He allegedly told officers that he had been asleep and suggested that someone else may have been responsible for the woman’s injuries.
However, investigators noted significant evidence inside the home, including clumps of hair believed to belong to the victim, blood-like stains on the floor, and multiple knives. Based on these findings, the suspect was taken into custody.
