Maryland Weather Alert: Record-Breaking Heat Expected This Week with Fire Risk Concerns

Maryland is heading into an unusually warm stretch this week, with temperatures climbing well above normal and potentially breaking long-standing records. A strong high-pressure system moving across the eastern United States is driving this sudden spike in heat, bringing summer-like conditions in mid-April.

After a mild Monday night with temperatures staying in the upper 50s to low 60s, Tuesday will see a sharp jump in warmth. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 80s under mostly sunny skies. While the record of 91°F set in 1941 may remain intact, a brief round of evening showers could impact parts of the Baltimore area, possibly slowing down commuters.

The real heat arrives midweek. Wednesday and Thursday are likely to break temperature records, with highs forecast around 92°F and 91°F respectively. These readings could surpass historic records set decades ago. Despite the heat, humidity levels are expected to stay relatively low, making conditions slightly more tolerable.

However, the combination of dry weather, gusty winds, and high temperatures has raised concerns about an increased risk of brush fires. Residents are strongly advised to avoid outdoor burning, as local authorities may enforce temporary burn bans.

Warm conditions will continue into Friday and Saturday, with temperatures staying in the mid to upper 80s. A few isolated showers are possible, but most areas will remain dry.

Relief is expected on Sunday as a cold front moves through, bringing cooler temperatures and a higher chance of rain and thunderstorms.
