Masked Suspects Smash Jewelry Kiosk During Robbery at Trumbull Mall, Police Say

Police in Trumbull are investigating a smash-and-grab style robbery that occurred Sunday evening at the Trumbull Mall, leaving a jewelry kiosk damaged but no injuries reported.

According to the Trumbull Police Department, officers were called to the mall at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, after reports of a robbery in progress. Investigators say two suspects wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts approached the Trumbull Mall jewelry kiosk known as Banter by Piercing Pagoda.

Police said the suspects smashed the glass display case at the kiosk before quickly grabbing merchandise. After the glass was shattered, the two individuals fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. Authorities confirmed that no employees or shoppers were threatened or injured during the incident.

At this time, police have not released details about what items were taken or the estimated value of the stolen merchandise. The investigation remains active as officers review mall surveillance footage and work to identify the suspects involved.

The Trumbull Police Department noted that the robbery occurred during busy weekend shopping hours, raising concerns about public safety and retail crime. While incidents of this nature are relatively uncommon in the area, police say smash-and-grab robberies often happen quickly and are designed to minimize the chance of suspects being caught at the scene.

Investigators are asking anyone who was inside the mall around the time of the robbery or who may have witnessed suspicious activity before or after the incident to come forward. Shoppers who may have captured video or photos on their phones are also encouraged to share that information with authorities.

Police are reminding the public that wearing masks and layered clothing can make identifying suspects more challenging, but surveillance footage and witness statements remain critical tools in solving cases like this.

Anyone with information related to the robbery is urged to contact the Trumbull Police Department. Tips can help investigators determine the suspects’ identities, the direction of travel after fleeing the mall, and whether the individuals may be connected to similar incidents in the region.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
